The British Pharmacological Society is excited to welcome pharmacologists to Harrogate in North Yorkshire for our annual meeting, Pharmacology 2024.
Harrogate is the definitive boutique spa town, born through a boom in Spa tourism during the 1800s. The high society of the Victorian Britain flocked to Harrogate to enjoy the air, the space and the therapeutic spa treatments as well as taking the famous Harrogate waters.
The town quickly developed a reputation for luxurious getaways for body and soul - a reputation which continues to this day, as modern day Harrogate is still the go-to destination for relaxation and indulgence, quality shopping and afternoon tea.
Just as the Victorians did, people continue to enjoy Harrogate's many luxurious spas, including the original Turkish Baths situated in the iconic Royal Baths building in the centre of town.
Once refreshed, visitors can head to Harrogate's thriving streets which buzz with plenty of independent boutiques and big-name brands to keep the most avid shopper happy.
When refuelling is needed, the town offers many delishious cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs to accomodate all tastes and budgets - including the famous Betty's Cafe Tea Rooms which is the perfecr spot for afternoon tea!
As well as the Pharmacology 2024's planned social activities, Harrogate has an eclectic cultural scene to keep you entertained outside of conference hours.
With a host of private galleries, fantastic theatres and a rich and varied festival scene Harrogateโs arts and culture scene stretches from traditional paintings and musical events to an eclectic contemporary selection of performing arts and literary discussion, and absolutely everything in-between.
For those wanting to get out in the fresh air, possibly the most distinctive feature of Harrogate is its vast open space that surrounds the town centre. Known locally as the Stray, this 200 acres space gives Harrogate town centre a green and spacious feel unique to the town.
Harrogate is also well known for its beautiful parks and gardens. The largest of these is the Grade II listed Valley Gardens, which features several distinctive areas and receives 3 million visitors a year.
